Insurance giant Prudential’s $216 billion asset management business, Eastspring Investments, has named Vis Nayar CIO, effective June 3.

Based in Singapore, Nayar will join Eastspring from HSBC Asset Management, where he has worked for more than 25 years, most recently as global CIO for equities.

Nayar will report to Eastspring CEO Bill Maldonado and will become a member of the company’s executive management committee. Maldonado was promoted to CEO in September 2023 from CIO, a position he has continued to serve on an interim basis.

“We are delighted that Vis will be joining Eastspring to lead the firm’s investment teams and investment platform,” Maldonado said in a release. “Vis’ experience and expertise, combined with his ability in driving a high-performance culture, will bolster our capabilities and strengthen our investment offerings.”

Aside from a two-year stint beginning from 2005 to 2007 at Halbis Capital Management, which later merged into HSBC Global Asset Management USA, Nayar has worked at HSBC since 1996, when he became head of market risk control at HSBC Markets, according to his LinkedIn profile. He has held a slew of roles at the bank since then, including senior fund manager, G3 funds at HSBC Alternative Investments, head of quantitative equity research at HSBC and European and U.K. CIO, before taking on his current role a little more than a year ago.

Prior to first joining HSBC, Nayar was an equity risk analyst at BNP Paribas for two years and an assistant manager for five years at KPMG.

Nayar earned a master’s degree in finance from the London Business School and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Imperial College London. He is also a CFA charter holder.
