Vanderbilt Gets New CIO

(July 22, 2013) — Vanderbilt University has named a new vice chancellor for investments and chief investment officer: Anders Hall.

Hall is to leave his role as head of public securities at Duke University’s endowment, where he has worked for a decade, according to a release from Vanderbilt. Before that, he worked at Hewitt Investment Group and Prudential Financial.

The move will take effect after Labor Day.

“Anders will be a spectacular member of an already strong management team,” Vanderbilt Chancellor Nicholas Zeppos said in a release. “His background, experience and integrity make him an extremely qualified and excellent fit for this important position. I am excited for the strategic vision that he will bring in advancing our mission in education, research and health care.”

Hall takes over from Matthew White, who left the post in January of this year after managing the endowment through the global financial crisis. Brett Sweet, the university’s chief financial officer, served as interim-CIO.
