Schroders’ Solutions Head Joins USS as Director
(November 7, 2013) — Ian Maybury has joined the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) as a director, adding to his solutions management role at asset manager Schroders, aiCIO can reveal.
The appointment was confirmed by documents submitted to the Companies House register. Maybury started his role on November 1, and is acting as an independent trustee to the USS board.
Maybury will continue in his role at Schroders as head of solutions management. He joined the asset manager after spending almost four years at consultants Redington.
Prior to that, Maybury spent eight years at Citi, working as head of insurance asset liability management.
The University of Southampton graduate also spent 20 years working as an actuary for Royal London.
USS has experienced several people moves in the past year. In August, Bill Galvin joined as CEO, having previously led the UK’s pensions regulator.
In September, Heath Mottram, a pension consultant-turned pension manager, quit the fund just eight months after joining as its head of fixed income and liability management.
The trend for consultant moving to asset managers, as Maybury did after his time at Redington, is a well-worn path.
aiCIO analysis of role changes within the investment sector—which looked at more than 160 moves—found 67 high-ranking consultants have left their jobs for ones in asset management since 2010.
