The VCU Investment Management Company, which manages the investments of Virginia Commonwealth University and its $2.7 billion endowment, has promoted Deputy CIO Bruce MacDonald to CIO effective July 1, according to an email from the company.
MacDonald will take over the CIO duties for Nancy Everett, who is currently both CIO and CEO of the investment management firm. Everett will remain CEO.
MacDonald has been with VCIMCO for nearly seven years, joining the company as a managing director when it was first formed in 2015. Prior to VCIMCO, MacDonald was the founder and CIO of Crayna Capital for two years, and before that he was CIO at Simple Alternatives, where he was responsible for investment management for its S1 fund.
He was also a director at The University of Virginia Investment Management Company for nearly four years, and prior to that he was at Putnam Investments for more than seven years in various management positions, including senior vice president, global asset allocation. He has a degree in religion from Wesleyan University and an MBA from Columbia University.
VCU Investment Management Company, which is a nonprofit organization, provides investment management and related services to Virginia Commonwealth University’s rector and the board of visitors, as well as for VCU Health and other affiliated entities.
