Texas Tech Endowment Recruiting Chief Technical Officer

The technology chief will support the university system’s investment operations.



The Texas Tech University System is recruiting a
chief technology officer for its office of investments. The successful candidate for the Lubbock, Texas-based position will directly report to the endowment’s CIO, Tim Barrett. The CTO will lead the endowment’s technology operations, which support its investment activities.  

“The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of investment operations, possess strong leadership skills, and demonstrate expertise in managing complex technology systems and vendor relationships,” the job posting states.  

Some requirements and qualifications for the position from the job posting include: 

  • At least 10 years of experience in technology management, preferably within financial services or investment management; 
  • A strong understanding of investment operations and the technological needs of investment professionals; and 
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry standards related to technology and investment operations. 

The office of investments manages the long-term investment fund, the endowment of the Texas Tech University System. Barrett won the 2023 CIO Industry Innovation Award in the endowments category.

“This position will be responsible for our systems, Total Plan by MSCI, FactSet for CRM/workflow, Preqin, Bloomberg, etc.,” Barrett wrote in a LinkedIn post. “In short, this position is critical in leveraging our small team through implementing technology solutions, overseeing manager statements and reconciliations, reporting, and data analytics.” 

Texas Tech’s office of investments managed $1.7 billion in endowment assets in its long-term investment fund, as of May 31. The fund has reported one-, three-, five- and 10-year trailing returns of 10.99%, 6.35%, 8.42% and 6.70%, respectively, as of May 31.
