Brown Advisory announced Tuesday the appointment of Sargent McGowan as a partner in and CIO of U.S. endowments and foundations at the investment consulting firm.
“We could not be more excited to welcome Sarge to the firm and bring his deep knowledge and experience to our endowments and foundations clients,” Brigid Peterson, Brown Advisory’s head of endowments and foundations, said in a statement. “Sarge’s leadership of investment teams will be an incredibly valuable asset to our team as we seek to continue to elevate our Endowments and Foundations offering.”
McGowan was a managing director at the University of Virginia Investment Management Co. from 2013 until June. He was also acting CIO of UVIMCO during the 2018 CIO transition from Lawrence Kochard to Robert Durden. UVIMCO manages UVA’s $14 billion endowment.
“The addition of Sarge demonstrates the firm’s commitment to the growth of our Endowments and Foundations business,” said Paul Chew, a partner in and CIO of Brown Advisory, in a statement. “Sarge’s extensive knowledge and expertise in investment management will build upon and enhance our investment offering for our clients.”
McGowan was previously a portfolio manager at Invesco Ltd. and a research associate at Sanford Bernstein & Co. and PaineWebber Inc. He earned a bachelor of science degree in finance from the University of Virginia and an MBA from the Kenan-Flagler business school at the University of North Carolina.
Brown Advisory provides investment and strategic advisory services for family offices, endowments, foundations, families and individuals, investment management for institutional clients and an outsourced CIO business.
