Russell Investments Adds Heier to Lead Institutional Client Service

Previously at Verus Investments, Shelly Heier steps into a new role at Russell.

Investment management firm Russell Investments announced Monday the appointment of Shelly Heier as global head of institutional client service, a newly created role. Heier will be based in Seattle and will report to Lindy Freeman, Russell’s managing director and global head of institutional clients. Heier’s appointment is effective immediately.

“We’re thrilled to have Shelly as part of the Russell Investments team,” Freeman said in a statement. “Institutional clients are central to our mission, and having an industry veteran like Shelly leading our delivery will significantly strengthen our partnerships.”

Heier was previously at Verus Investments for 24 years, most recently as president and senior consultant. She was chair of the firm’s outsourced CIO investments and alternative investments committees and worked with institutional allocator clients. Heier earned a bachelor of arts degree in finance and economics from the University of Puget Sound.

With 26 years of industry experience, Heier played a pivotal role at Verus Investments in delivering both non-discretionary consulting and discretionary management services to institutional clients, including endowments, foundations, corporate pension plans, and public and multi-employer trusts,” according to Russell’s announcement.
