Continuing a nine-month hot streak for hedge funds, all top-level strategies and emerging markets-based funds produced positive returns for the month of July, according to a study from Preqin.
According to the report, hedge funds gained 1.15% last month—5.93% for the Preqin All-Star Strategies Hedge Fund benchmark in 2017 year-to-date (YTD) and 9.63% for the past 12 months.
Although all top-level strategies brought back gains, equity strategies performed the best out of its counterparts at 1.66%.
In terms of geographic region, emerging markets-based funds produced the highest returns. By returning 2.63%, the funds helped bring the 2017 YTD cumulative return figure to 10.09%—closely followed by Asia-Pacific-based funds, with 9.38% YTD.
July was also a good month for CTAs, which saw a .99% recovery after a -.89% loss in June. Discretionary CTAs were the main drivers for this improvement, as they returned 1.65% in July.
