Nature Conservancy Seeking Head of Strategic Investment Initiatives

The investment executive will work on special projects for the $4 billion endowment.



The Nature Conservancy, an Arlington, Virginia-based nonprofit environmental organization, is seeking a head of strategic investments for the organization’s office of investments, according to
a job posting.  

TNC’s office of investments manages more than $4 billion in assets for the conservancy, which has $9 billion in total assets across its units, including an impact investing group, NatureVest. The office is responsible for supporting TNC’s mission by providing capital to support the endowment’s operations and conservation projects.  

“The Head of Strategic Investment Initiatives is responsible for developing, executing, and sustaining strategic initiatives and special projects,” the job posting states. “As a member of the OOI’s leadership team, the head will provide critical investment thought leadership, direction, and expertise in the development of integrated communications strategies that further the objectives, plans, mission, and vision of the OOI.” 

The head of strategic investment initiatives will report to CIO Bola Olusanya and join an investment team of 15 people. The role is remote, with the possibility of a hybrid arrangement for those in the Arlington area.

TNC has a 2030 goal of offsetting 3 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually, conserving 4 billion hectares of marine habitat, conserving 1 million kilometers of rivers and 30 million hectares of lakes and wetlands, as well as helping 100 million people at risk of climate emergencies.  

Some of the qualifications for the position include: 

  • Experience working at an endowment, foundation or pension fund as an investor, allocator or portfolio strategist; 
  • Experience with multi-asset-class investment strategies; 
  • Advanced degrees and/or professional designations; and  
  • Experience managing teams of professionals and senior level staff.
