Washington State Investment Board Chief Investment Officer Gary Bruebaker will retire at the end of the year, and he’s also the next guest on the CIO Podcast.
Bruebaker, known for consistent top-decile returns, will end a 40-plus-year career in the institutional investment industry, 19 of which at the Washington fund. On the show, he will discuss his career highlights and challenges, give advice for his successor and peers, and more.
He’ll also talk about his hobbies (which include boating) and post-retirement plans.
Bruebaker replaced Chris Ailman in 2001 in Washington, when Ailman left to take up his current post as CalSTRS CIO. They have remained friends. He’ll also chat about what he learned from Ailman when stepping in and how that advice has helped him through the years.
“It’s been gratifying to reflect back on the rewards and challenges involved in overseeing state investment funds, and I genuinely look forward to joining the ranks of those who enjoy their benefits during retirement,” he told CIO.
The podcast will air Monday, July 29, at 9 a.m. on CIO, Soundcloud, and iTunes.
