Dustin Antonini Is Named CIO of Saskatchewan Healthcare Pension

The appointment of the investment chief is effective immediately 



The Saskatchewan Healthcare Employees’ Pension Plan has appointed Dustin Antonini chief investment officer, succeeding Janet Julé, who has retired from the position, the pension fund
announced on May 30. Antonini, at SHEPP will oversee the pension system’s investment strategy. 

“Since joining SHEPP in 2017, Dustin has been instrumental in advancing our investment strategies, driving growth and ensuring success. His exceptional leadership, dedication and expertise have made a significant impact at SHEPP, and he will be a valuable addition to our senior leadership team,” says a statement from the pension fund.  

Antonini was previously director of investments; his appointment as CIO is effective immediately. Executive search firm Massey Henry assisted with the recruitment of Antonini. 

SHEPP is a multiemployer pension plan with 48 participating employers that provides retirement benefits to 39,000 active and 21,409 retired plan participants.

As of December 31, 2022, SHEPP has returned an annualized negative 3.2%, 7.1% and 8.4% for the prior one, four and 10 years respectively. The fund, with C$9.3 billion ($6.8 billion) in assets, allocated 37% of its portfolio to equities, 23% to real assets, 30% to fixed income and 10% to liquid alternatives. As of year-end 2022, the plan had a funded status of 98%.
