Johns Hopkins CIO to Step Down

Kathryn Crecelius will leave the $3.4 billion endowment after nearly 11 years at the helm, CIO has learned.

kathryn creceliusKathryn CreceliusJohns Hopkins University’s longtime CIO Kathryn Crecelius will retire at the end of June, the university has confirmed.

Crecelius, who joined Johns Hopkins in October 2005, served as the $3.4 billion endowment’s first CIO. As investment chief, Crecelius was responsible for overseeing the endowment, as well as building the university’s first separate investment office staff.

Prior to her arrival, university investments had been handled by the school treasurer’s office.

Crecelius previously worked at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she built the endowment’s marketable alternatives portfolio and was responsible for nearly a fifth of retirement plan assets.

Crecelius has also served as a consultant at Cambridge Associates and as head of risk in the global custody network group at Brown Brothers Harriman & Co.

A national search will be conducted for her successor.
